Read the recap of the 11U Team's memorable experience in the Baseball in Benin Wood Bat Tournament (August 14-16).

Game 1 vs. Robbinsdale 12U All-Stars

Our Hamel 11U All-Stars played Robbinsdale Little League's 12U All-Stars at Sanborn Field on 8/15/2020.  It was the first game of a tripleheader for them due to a stormy Friday evening in and around Robbinsdale.

Jack Parker (4 1/3 IP, 8 R, 5 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 3 K) started the game and pitched well before being removed due to pitch count limit.  Royce Ullom (2/3 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K), Ian Holst (1/3 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1K), J.T. Fogle (1/3 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB) and Jack Servi (1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 ER) combined to keep Robbinsdale at bay and force a complete 6 innings to give their team a shot at a comeback.  Hamel got their bats going in the 6th inning and scored four runs, but ultimately came up short against the older, more experienced team, by a score of 12-4.  The score was 3-0 after 3 innings of play.

Jack Parker (2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI), Liam Sweet (1-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Vince Scherer (1-2, 1 BB), Jack Servi (1-3, 1 RBI), Lucas Woodrum (1-2, 1 R), and Henry Huber (1-2, 1 R) led the Hawks in the hitting department, as they collected 7 hits as a team.

Game 2 vs. Pine Tar Academy 12U All-Stars

Hamel's second game of the day was against a local 12U club team at Lakeview Terrace Park.  Vince Scherer (5 IP, 8 R,  5 ER, 4 K, 10 H, 1 BB) started on the mound for Hamel and battled hard before giving way to Liam Sweet (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K)  to close the game.  Hamel led 3-2 after 2 innings, capitalizing on a couple hit-by-pitches to scratch out three runs.  Small ball and aggressive baserunning also contributed to the hot start.

Pine Tar Academy battled back in the middle innings, buoyed by timely hitting and a few fielding miscues by Hamel.  A six run 3rd inning by PTA put the game out of reach, and they prevailed by a score of 8-3.

Hamel was led by Henry Huber (2-2, 1R), Jack Servi (1-3), Noah Wentzel (1-2, BB), Royce Ullom (1-3), and Lucas Woodrum (1-2, 1R).

Game 3 vs. Pine Tar Academy 11U All-Stars

Hamel's final game of the evening was played under the lights at Lakeview Terrace Park against the only other 11U team in their pool.  Hamel started slowly over the first two innings offensively, before busting out for a 10 run 3rd inning to prevail in a shortened game, 10-0.

Ben Cohn (4IP, 0R, 0ER, 8K, 1BB, 3H) toed the rubber for Hamel and pitched a shutout, scattering three hits.

Every player for Hamel reached base in the 3rd inning, and 10 of the 11 players scored via a combination of hits (Holst - 1B, Sweet - 2B, Scherer - 1B, Servi - 1B, Cohn - 1B, Woodrum - 2B), walks (Parker, Ullom, Fogle, Huber), and hit batsmen (Wentzel).

Overall, the tournament was a great experience for the 11U All-Stars.  They competed hard against the more experienced teams and held their own before notching a victory to close out the tournament.
